T<strong>he Reported calls advises you to hold the phone.<\/strong> The growing <strong>&#8220;one-ring&#8221; scam could make you a victim.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Here&#8217;s how it works. One-ring<strong>.<\/strong> Scammers allow the phone to ring only once, just enough to trigger a missed call message.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Scammers want you to call back. They could be because you think the call was not legitimate or curious about who called. You&#8217;ll likely hear &#8220;<strong>Hello<\/strong>&#8221; if you do. <strong>&#8220;Hello, operator. You have reached the operator.&#8221;<\/strong> Throughout this time, you will be charged a per-minute fee in addition to the international rate. These calls come from numbers with three-digit area code numbers that appear to be from the U.S. but are actually associated with international numbers, often from the Caribbean. These area codes are <strong>268, 284, 664<\/strong>, and <strong>649. 767, 809<\/strong>, and <strong>829<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>Do not pick up a call like that<\/strong>, and don&#8217;t return the call. &#8220;One-ring&#8221; cell phone scam can ding your wallet<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Do not be tempted to dial back. Instead, check the number online. This will be able to tell you where the number is registered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You can resolve charges with your mobile phone carrier if you have been the victim of the &#8220;<strong>one-ring scam.<\/strong>&#8221; If this fails, you can file a complaint with the <a href=\"https:\/\/reportedcalls.net\/\"><strong>Reported calls<\/strong><\/a><\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>As a rule of thumb, read your phone bill line by line.
